Play with it

“This is so addictive! You gonna get me fired!”

“I’m actually playing with my daughter. We were looking for things she could play instead of the screen, and this came at the right time.”

What

A toy for making concrete art on a modular grid. One HTML file, no accounts, no backend, no build step.

How

You design up to four tiles, then click to fill the grid. A tile is a square cut in two and striped, in colours generated from one hue. That’s the whole vocabulary. There’s no brush, so you can’t nudge a shape or override a colour: the composition comes out of the system, not out of your hand.

Why

In my day job I’m asked to define things, to have the answers, to make everything converge on a finish. I wanted something that diverges instead, something without an end. It’s also what I believe a good design system is: a set of rules that makes good work likely, not a set of components.
